Dear Powell Community,

Welcome to the Colin L. Powell Academy for Success.  We were fortunate to have General Colin Powell dedicate our school when we first opened in the fall of 1999.  At that ceremony, General Powell spoke about the importance of six values that guided him through his life resulting in his many accomplishments.  We have embraced these values as our own through ongoing lessons and recognition celebrations.

At Powell, we respect the rights of others.  We show this respect by being polite and kind to everyone.  We honor our diverse community and our school.  We demonstrate this by appreciating and celebrating our diversity.  We strive for courage.  Courage is best revealed when faced with adversity.  In times of trouble, a true leader stands up and does the right thing.  Powell Eagles also focus on developing strong leadership skills.   We promote and practice leadership by being the first to do the right thing, every time.  Powell Eagles also know the meaning of the word integrity.  We keep our word.  Finally, we take pride in being recognized as scholars focused on learning and “Soaring to Success” both academically and in terms of behavior.

We are also proud that all of our Powell staff members have chosen their profession and dedicated themselves to a life of service for our students.   We work together to create a safe environment for the entire community so that they can learn to their highest potential.  We are also proud to have established three brand new computer labs for our K – 8 students.  They now have access to 21st century technology and are able to explore the world beyond our campus through the internet.  We demonstrate our pride in being an Eagle by wearing our uniform every day.  For further information on our uniform policy and our rules and procedures, please see our website for our Student/Parent Handbook.

We are so pleased that you are a member of the Powell community.  We are looking forward to another great year focused on learning so that all students are “Soaring to Success!”

Sincerely,

Mrs. Claflin
