Student Dress Code Guidelines for 2016 – 2017




TOPS: Solid* navy or white collared shirts with sleeves and no logos, Powell spirit wear accepted

BOTTOMS: Solid navy for elementary; Khaki for middle grades. Bottoms are pants, skirts, shorts, jumpers with no decorative logos or patches, Powell spirit wear accepted

OUTERWEAR: Solid navy, white, gray, or black jackets, sweaters, or sweatshirts.

Powell spirit wear accepted. *Solid means one color only


  • Clothing must fit properly with no logos.
  • Clothing cannot bare the midriff or allow undergarments to be exposed.
  • Closed footwear that covers the entire foot must be worn for safety reasons.
  • All blouses and shirts must be properly buttoned.
  • Shorts and skirts must be no more than 3 inches above the kneecap.
  • Pants must be worn at the waist with no sagging.
  • Hair must be clean, show evidence of having been neatly groomed for school, and a natural color.
  • Religious attire is also of solid uniform colors.
  • Double tops/visible layers in uniform colors; collared shirt must be on top.



  • Double Tops/Visible Layers in non-uniform colors
  • Tank Tops
  • Strapless, sleeveless, off the shoulder , or spaghetti strap tops
  • Low-cut shirts, bare-back or tube tops
  • Revealing, see-through, and sheer clothing
  • Clothing and accessories with obscene or gang-related material
  • Clothing with writing, pictures, or patches
  • PE shirts in the classroom


  • Jeans, leggings, yoga pants, tights
  • Sweat pants/Athletic pants
  • Cut-offs or cut-off jean shorts, ripped, or torn clothing
  • Clothing that is revealing and allows undergarments or midriff skin to be exposed
  • Clothing with writing, pictures, or patches
  • PE shorts in the classroom


  • Hats, headbands, bandanas, “do-rags”
  • Hair nets
  • Combs in the hair
  • Gang/tagger crew tattoos or writing on the body
  • No spike earrings or facial piercings may be worn.
  • Accessories that compromise a student's safety
